My conduct as a magistrate having been impeached in a memorial to the Secretary of State for the Home Department, I think proper, for the information of my friends and the public, to lay before them the letter I received from his grace the Duke of Northumberland, and my answer to it, with the resolutions of the quarter sessions, and a brief statement of some transactions in which I was more particularly engaged, which I trust will clearly and satisfactorily explain the principles upon which I acted during the late unfortunate disturbances
