Scope and ContentBritish Battalion (Communist). Major Attlee Company 1936-39. International Brigade (Northampton & Corby 1978).
The banner is composed of three distinct parts, divided horizontally. It is almost all text with virtually no illustration.
Front - Top third
"British Battalion Major Attlee Company 1936-1939"
These words are in gold lettering, in a free-hand, uppercase style.
The background to this section is a crimson red colour. There is a gold coloured wavy border which culminates in both bottom corners in three elaborate curls.
Front - Middle third
"International Brigade Battle Fronts"
All of these words are in a more formal, uppercase style.
The first two words are royal blue apart from 'I' of 'International' and 'B' of 'Brigade' which are a darker blue.
The second two are light, almost pink shade of red with, again, the first two letters a darker shade, closer to that of the background of the top third. The background to this section is amber. There is a thin red border on either side of this border. There are three large stitched patterns either side of the words 'Battle Fronts' and in between the two words.
Front - Bottom third
The bottom third details the names of the battle fronts:
"Ebro Teruel Jarama Brunete Aragon Saragossa Boadilla Calaceite Fuentes-Del-Ebro Caspe Gandesa"
These words are all in uppercase and in a variety of shades of gold and bronze colours.
Between 'Caspe' and 'Gandesa' are the words: "Donated & made by Emmelene Davies Joe Norman & Stan Bolton"
Again, these words are of a bronze-like colour, are in uppercase but smaller than the place names.
The colour of the material on this section is royal blue and there is a thin gold border similar to that on the top third.
Reverse
The reverse is blank except for some yellow-coloured text stitched to the bottom left corner, reading, horizontally:
"Northampton & Corby 1978"

Extent1 Single Sided Banner
Physical descriptionDimensions: 1730mmx1420mm. Embroidered on Cotton.
Materials
The banner is constructed of three separate pieces of material, stitched together horizontally. The top two thirds are very tactile, possible velour with the bottom third a more robust cotton-like material. At the edges the material is folded over and stitched down for extra strength. There are two thick vertical seems all the way down the banner 1/4 and 3/4 from the left. At these seems, on the top third section, are two slats cut in the material, to allow air to pass through when outdoors.
The three stitched patterns on the middle third are achieved by embroidering the pattern over three large circular holes in the material.
Across the bottom are many gold coloured rope-like tassels.
All of the text is made of various tactile materials, stitched onto the banner.
Hanging Mechanism
There is a sleeve in the material across the top of the banner, to allow a pole to be passed through for hanging.
There are two peach-coloured ties (12 in long) hanging from the left seam, one third down.
