Scope and ContentPoster with the text: A message to the travelling public. Why you should be angry. Privatisation (due in 1993-94) and deregulation (due in 1995) will mean: reductions in unprofitable weekend and evening services; massive fare-increases; loss or restriction of the Travelcard facility; possible loss of free travel for pensioners; complete confusion as rivals compete on profitable routes; an ageing bus fleet as companies will be unable to afford new vehicles. This is not make-believe, but a description of precisely what has happened in the rest of the country, where bus services were privatised and deregulated in 1986. This must not happen in London. The Commons Select Committee on Transport has agreed to conduct an inquiry into the proposals. Londoners should now demand that the Government freezes its plans until the outcome of this inquiry. We urge you to voice this demand by writing to your MP and to Steven Norris, Minister for Transport in London, Department of Transport, 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1 3EB. Petition forms are available from the address at the bottom of this poster. London's bus services cannot be saved without your help!
