Scope and ContentPoster with an image of a watercolour by John Gelsavage and the text: The Pullman strike. Eugene V Debs organized the American Railway Union which was smashed during the Pullman Strike in 1894. The company refused to negotiate, and troops were brought in because strikers were 'interfering with the mails.' Debs was found guilty of violating an injunction and sent to jail despite the eloquent plea of Clarence Darrow, shown in the lower left-hand corner.
