Scope and ContentPoster with an image of a watercolour by John Gelsavage and the text: The Colonial Days. Indentured servants came to America by the thousands in colonial days and worked out the price of their passage as 'bound servants' to the highest bidder. Few of them found the 'streets of gold' which had been promised them; instead most found years of hardship and privation while working out their debt.
