This image was first published on the front page of the Daily Worker on 19 Sep 1936 and was taken a few days earlier.

Archival historyGeorgio Tioli was an Italian who was living in London, Fred Barry was an Australian. this is one of the earliest images of British volunteers in Spain. further information on Ramona Cohen can be found at no 32 above. In 2013 Alan Warren located the exact spot where this was taken and recreated the photograph with National Clarion 1895 Cycle Club, and their replica of this banner.
