Archival historyAileen Palmer (1915-1988), was an Australian who went to Barcelona to observe the unfolding revolution in Spain, and specifically to help as interpreter at the Workers Olympiad in Barcelona in July 1936. When war broke out she acted as an interpreter in the field hospitals of the republic, until she went to England in 1938. Flora Silverthorne (1910-1998), was a Welsh nurse who had always been active in left wing politics, and was sometimes known as 'Red Silverthorne', she continued to be involved in left wing politics and causes throughout her life.
