National Society of Brushmakers chest
- The old trade unions - from unprinted records of the brushmakers
See page 240: “Now that my task is done I give thought to the safe-keeping of the previous material: dear old Minute Books, original letters, and the battered Account Book of 1814 Rob Colegate’s children got hold of. All these shall now be kept together in a box. And, because the content is in the handwriting of the old Brushmakers themselves, it shall be kept as authoritative matter. Possession shall be a sacred trust. The box I have procured is of the nature of a deed-box and now bears on the outside this inscription:- The National Society Of Brushmakers London Adieu Brothers! Adieu!”
