Scope and ContentGeorge was born in 1920 in Poplar, and lived the first part of his life in Canning Town. he started to work on the River in 1935. He was in the Air Force in WW2. He talks about various disputes, including the Canadian Seamen's Union strike in 1949. He was editor of the Portworkers' News, and on the executive of the Lightermen's Union 1950-1967, and was also a member of the Communist Party.
